This week went by very quickly, but this time of year, I’m so busy that they all just seem to blend together. You may have noticed I did fewer grid photos this week. I felt I was slacking a bit on my quality, so I’m toning it back a bit in favor of posting better pictures. I hope you like them!
This first one was from our backpacking trek through the backwoods of Alaska. I was fascinated by the angled layers here, betraying geological shifts of the earth.
Next, my only grid this week, from Denali National Park. This was a stop along our bus tour. Even though it was cloudy, the scenery was breathtaking.
Here’s another from Hawaii. Tropical sunsets truly are something else. Perhaps it’s just the heat and the extra humidity in the air, but these sunsets just say “paradise” and whisper relaxation. I’ll be thrilled to go back if the opportunity presents itself.
This photo was from Yosemite National Park, and I used a related picture from that evening as the response to my own monthly photo challenge. You can read all the details here and see the submissions here. Stay tuned for this month’s prompt if you’d like to participate. I post the prompt about two weeks before submissions are due at the end of the month, and I post your pictures on the first Wednesday of the following month.
This photo was from my post responding to this week’s photo challenge, “serene.” Does this say “serenity” to you? You can read that post here.
Finally, these last two photos were really difficult to decide between. I love this long exposure of a Hawaiian beach just south of Kona Airport.
However, this one barely squeaked into first place for me. How can a beach compete with the rare opportunity of seeing a wild grizzly? This was also my submission this last week for Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness. Such beautiful creatures.
I welcome your comments below. Please tell me what you like, and even what you don’t like. I’m constantly experimenting, and I would love to get your feedback. And as always, feel free to catch daily+ posts to my Instagram account.

Great photos. I especially like the one of the Hawaiian sunset. And the one of the grizzly shows the true value of a telephoto lens.
Thank you, Tom! Yes, I couldn’t get enough of the sunsets in Hawaii. And though it weighed a ton, it was completely worth lugging around that bazooka lens for the sake of the bears!
