Happy Monday!

As I mentioned before, I’m switching up my schedule, moving these previously-Friday posts to Mondays.  Some wistful scenery from distant locations should start your week off well 🙂

With the move, this also means I have a couple of extra pictures this week; I’m sure you won’t mind.

Boy, this week was really tough to sort!

This first one was from the train in Alaska.  I passed almost the entire ride standing between the cars, braving the rushing wind to capture as much of the passing landscape into pixels as I could.

This week has been crazy busy.. I’ve been scrambling to process PDXWLF photos (I’ll have a post on that soon!), entertain family, and prepare for a trip to Utah!  We just spent our first day in Zion National Park, and I can’t wait to share some of the photos – what an amazing place!

This first photo from Instagram this week was from another national park: Denali!  We had some beautiful clouds to contrast the lush landscape.  I’d love more time to explore there.

This week on Instagram featured a lot of scenic shots.  I’m trying to shoot for a more consistent look on my Instagram, so I’m going to be a bit more particular with the images I choose to feature there.  Let me know what you think!

This first one is from Hawaii.  This was a beach we wanted to reach, but we had a really late start.  We did make it down there (through the mosquitos), just in time for sunset and a darkening trek back up the massive hill.  You can read about that adventure in depth here.

This next one is also from our trip to Hawaii – the beautifully cracked lava fields with Mauna Kea looming in the distance.  It barely even looks like a mountain the incline is so gradual.

We saw this little guy at the summit of the Savage River Alpine Trail in Denali National Park.  And while this isn’t quite a groundhog (he’s a ground squirrel), I chose this image for last week’s Monochrome Madness and for my February 2nd Instagram post.  These little guys are so curious!

This is also from Denali National Park.  I couldn’t get enough of that mist.

And another from Hawaii.  When it’s all rainy and dreary here, I dream of those tropical beaches – of a simpler time.

Getting down to the final two, this was tough.  This was for my Weekly Wow this week, though my actual wowing picture is a panorama.  You can check it out right here.  We were clouded in for the lunar eclipse, but the city sure was beautiful that morning well before dawn.

And finally, my top pick for this week is from beautiful Crater Lake.  It’s crazy to think this spot was a complete blizzard only 24 hours prior.  Those clouds added some nice texture to the sky, and I just love the colors.

This was also an image from my weekly challenge post this week for the theme “beloved” where I talk about how I wound up shooting the things I do.  You can read the post here.

Which image do you like best?  I’m always curious to hear what people think, as my personal opinions seem to differ from everyone else’s.  Feel free to leave a comment below, and check out daily posts over on my Instagram account.

Once more, we find ourselves at Friday!  I keep experimenting with new things, and I hope you like it.  Please let me know in the comments what you think!

This first one is an image from our trip to Hawaii a couple years back.  The contrast of colors here really caught my eye, and this is pretty true to how I actually saw the sky as we were lazing under a tree on a tropical beach… sure sounds more appealing than the constant rain we’re facing now!

Happy Friday!

This week, I went back to some variety.  Alaska, Yosemite.. even a touch of Hawaii and something local.  So let’s get to it!

This first image is from my post this week on the endless Alaskan daylight.  While I do love my sunshine, it’s a bit disruptive to my circadian rhythm to be deprived of so many hours of darkness.  You can read that post here.

Welcome to the new year!  I’m excited to see what it brings.

For this first week of 2018, I have some fun scenes.  First, a few from Alaska.

The mist and fog in Denali National Park was breathtaking.  Photos simply can’t do it justice.  It was too much to see the Great One, itself, but it sure made the scenery beautiful.

Happy holidays, everyone!  We’re so close to my favorite holiday of the year: Christmas.  For us, it’s a time of coming together with family I only see once a year, eating far too much of my mother’s amazing cooking, boisterous laughter over drinks and games, and the excitement of seeing someone unwrap a lovingly-prepared gift.  I wish you all a very happy Christmas, even if you don’t celebrate it.  I hope the holidays bring much joy, fun, and relaxation 🙂

Happy Friday!  This week featured quite a bit of Alaska.  I took so many photos there; I hope you don’t mind.

I’m also just beginning to play around with Instagram stories.  They’re all the rage nowadays, and I haven’t really used them before, so we’ll see how it goes!

This first photo is from my most recent post on crossing the Red River during our backpacking trip in Lake Clark National Park.  The scenery is beautiful, but the water sure is cold!  Check out that post here.

Another week has flown by!  This one was really crazy, following Thanksgiving last week.  On top of wrapping up Kumoricon pictures, there’s no time to slow down!

I did a few more grid photos this week on Instagram.  How do you like them?

This first one was from the train ride to Denali National Park.  I’m a sucker for reflections, and those low clouds added an extra dynamic.

Greetings all!  Another Friday, another week on Instagram.  Yesterday was Thanksgiving in the States – a day of friends, family, and much feasting (and of course I had my camera close by).  I had only one reasonable plate, but I still managed to eat too much.  It’s tough with so much amazing food!

A very happy Thanksgiving to all of you out there; I’m thankful to have so many people see my photography every week.

As for the photos this week, this first grid photo was from this week’s photo challenge, “experimental.”  I tried something new, that I’ve always been curious to try – focus stacking.  Read all about it and see the final result here.
