Photostory: Rainy Camping

I’ll be frank.  It’s kind of miserable camping in the rain.

As most of you should know by now, I am preparing for a big backpacking trip in July.  I am going to Alaska to shoot bears (not that kind of shooting – this is a photography blog, folks).  And if you read my post on my first backpacking training hike, you’ll also know that I’ve never done backpacking before.  I refuse to be the one holding everyone else up; I’m dedicated to getting my weak butt trained and prepped for this thing.

Japan – Day 7: Rainy Wandering

Day 7 marked one week in Japan.  It decided to grant us rain, so we mostly stuck to the indoors.  Fortunately, stores still have plenty to offer when the outdoors are less than inviting!

Having heard about it from a gal on our bike tour, I decided to try a Japanese beauty mask.  The most popular brand is Pure Smile, and they come in all sorts of patterns, from geishas to cats.  They can be found in any convenience store.  I didn’t notice immediately radiant skin, but it was a fun little pampering. Rainy

Bonus!  I’m taking a quick break from the Japan posts and throwing an extra one out this week.  This is to talk about something near and dear to every Northwesterner’s heart: rain.

The Pacific Northwest has been pummeled by record rainfall this week, creating rivers in the streets and flooding in parking lots.  The storms have been quite hazardous, and I hope for everyone’s safety.  We are fortunate to live on a hill (though not so much to be in danger of landslides), and I work close enough to walk, so I can avoid the resulting traffic nightmare.
