Happy 2024!

2024 Calendars are still available at lotsasmilesphoto.etsy.com!

I have just a quick one for you this week, as we leave soon for our next adventure: Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park!

Things have been incredibly busy for us lately; activities seem to come in waves.  So it was a relief to catch a break and escape to the coast for a day.

We lucked out with perfect weather (rare at the beach, and even rarer this time of year), and it was nourishing for our souls to be away from the hustle and bustle for just a short time.

We meandered through some of the in-town shops and art galleries, just observing art and people.  I walked barefoot on the cold damp sand and took a few pictures.  I stepped into the frigid water until my toes went numb (you can’t go all the way to the beach and not physically touch the raw power of the incomprehensibly massive sea).

There wasn’t a breath of wind in the air.

We sat in silence on a log for at least half an hour, just letting the waves crash in the distance, caressing our minds in gentle monotony.

We ate crepes.

We revisited a favorite outlook and shared it with our visitor, marveling at the rich blue of the ocean so far below.  We sat on the rocks and basked in the winter sunshine, rejuvenated with vitamin D.

I took pictures.

I tend to work really hard in the wintertime, simply because there aren’t as many opportunities for getting out and burning weekends on a trail.  It’s an opportunity to catch up on some things in my life.

But that becomes quite taxing on my wellbeing and my energy, and I sometimes have to force myself to just slow down and remember the things for which I’m working so hard.  This life is beautiful, but I occasionally find myself too busy to enjoy it.  It’s refreshing to take a break.
