Welcome to the very last post of the year! There’s no weekly challenge this week, so I wanted to take a break and address something else that’s been weighing on my mind.
My life has become, in a word, overwhelming. The stress of building a photography business on top of a full-time job, home life, and anything in between is starting to get to me. So I need to make some changes – for my health and my sanity. I don’t ever want my photography to become a “job;” I love it too much. So I can’t afford for it to become a point of stress.
I’m excited to try all sorts of different things with my photography, but the business side is just taking too much time, so I need to better focus my efforts.
Therefore, I’m going to simplify my Wednesday posts and put the focus back on the photography I love so much. I’m going to try something new, a “weekly wow.” This will be a single image that I’m really proud of, something that “wows.” I’ll occasionally include some photo stories as adventures call, but I’m going to focus more on quality than quantity. You deserve to see the best of what I can do, and I don’t feel I’ve been living up to that potential.
Experimentation Bucket List
I have many things I’ve wanted to try with my photography, so I am going to set aside some time for that so I can grow and provide some new material for you. This includes playing with light painting, infrared photography, and more with moonscapes. Look for a page coming soon with the official list, and I’ll begin knocking those out once a month.
Images for Sale
I am also concentrating my efforts on making my photography finally work for me. I strive to do what I love full-time, and your support makes it happen. I love putting my art out into the world for you to enjoy. And if you love my pictures, please help me to this end by purchasing some of my images. My best are for sale as high-quality prints on my shop page, and I donate 25% of all sales to a monthly adopted charity. If price is a concern for you, you can subscribe to my monthly newsletter; subscribers receive 50% off of a monthly featured print.
I have also set up a profile with Picfair, a stock image site whose mission is to provide their photographers with proper compensation instead of the traditional 25% or less. If you are in need of pictures for your site or other project, you should have many options. I’ll be uploading new photos every week, and I welcome your feedback if it’s lacking any type of picture you’re looking for.
Finally, for those looking to simply support a fellow artist on a more regular basis, I have just launched a new Patreon account. This includes rewards like annual calendars, discounted prints, photography coaching, and photo books. You can help me for as little as $1 per month. Every bit counts toward keeping the pictures coming to my site here, as well as the stories from all of our various adventures. I’m very excited about the reward tiers I have set up. This should allow me to provide you with all sorts of awesome products, both digital and physical!
And if you are unable to contribute financially, you can also help bring my photography to others by reblogging my posts, pinning photos on Pinterest, sharing my posts on Facebook and other social media, and telling your friends about my website. In return, I’ll continue to produce high-quality content you want to share.
Photography is vitally important to me, and I want to continue to make it accessible to as many as possible, including you. Your support makes that happen!
…And that’s it for the sales pitch 🙂 Thank you to all who follow here. Even just your reading my posts regularly is amazing. I couldn’t do what I do without you.
I can’t wait for the new year; I feel some truly incredible things will happen. And I love that I get to share in this journey with all of you.
Happy New Year!
