TWO5: 8/13/18

Two photos on Instagram; five on 500px.  Here are this week’s highlights!

This first one is from the beautiful Land of the Rising Sun.  We visited many shrines and temples in Japan, most of which in Kyoto.  This particular one was just up the hill from our ryokan (traditional Japanese hotel).  Everything within the gates was meticulously cultivated and arranged for optimal zen.  It was impossible to enter one of these sanctuaries and not feel an utter sense of peace as the hustle and bustle of the city just melts away.  You can read all about that day here.

TWO5: 8/6/18

Happy new week to you all!

I’ve been talking about it for a bit, but this week, I finally followed through on the “two-five” (TWO5) idea.  This week, I posted two new photos to Instagram and five new photos to 500px.  I am also trying just wildlife photos on Instagram.  We’ll see how I like this new focus.

This first image was from our trip to Mesa Verde National Park.  We had to take a tour to get down to the actual ruins, but it was totally worth it.  These ancient Puebloans lived incredible lives carved out of these cliff faces.  Clambering down death-defying drops to access these fortresses and surviving off of corn and seep springs.  Wow…  You can read all about our full adventures at Cliff Palace and the other ruins right here.

Resolutions

Welcome to the very last post of the year!  There’s no weekly challenge this week, so I wanted to take a break and address something else that’s been weighing on my mind.

My life has become, in a word, overwhelming.  The stress of building a photography business on top of a full-time job, home life, and anything in between is starting to get to me.  So I need to make some changes – for my health and my sanity.  I don’t ever want my photography to become a “job;” I love it too much.  So I can’t afford for it to become a point of stress.

I’m excited to try all sorts of different things with my photography, but the business side is just taking too much time, so I need to better focus my efforts.
