I'm traveling! See the latest at www.bigtinyworld.com!

Wow!  So this week saw more activity than last week.  Folks really love those photos from the road!

I was a bit surprised this first photo from my inaugural backpacking training hike didn’t see more love, but I almost never agree with the masses as to which are my best photos.  I’m too connected to them, I suppose, and a lot of the value I see is sentimental and tied to the experience behind the pictures.  So how do I share that experience through a photo?  Food for thought.

More locally, spring has sprung!  The flowers are blooming (amidst all the rain), and the Waterfront is awash in pink (I’ll be going down there this weekend to catch some shots).

And this has been the other side of it.  So.  Much.  Rain.  This has been a crazy wet winter (the river is higher than I’ve ever seen it), and I’m more than ready to see some long-lasting sunshine.  The fog makes for some eerie photos, but I’m a little tired of being wet.

This one was from a local photowalk; we happened to catch some decent colors for the sunrise, and I liked it as a backdrop to something as banal as this crane.

And now we get into the good stuff!  These travel pictures sure are popular.  Here’s one from Corona Arch.  You can barely make out the tiny people standing under it, giving some perspective.  This arch is huge.

Next, another from Yosemite.  Yes, I am still processing photos from that trip back in January.  I took so many!  I love discovering new gems there, and I look forward to wrapping that up.

This photo is a proud member of my elite 100 club.  Thus far, only 20 of my photos on Instagram have reached 100 likes, and this is one of them.  But, to be fair, I’ve been getting better at playing the Instagram game, as all but one of these 20 were posted in the last 3 months.

And finally, this one.  This one from Double O Arch is truly special.  Aside from it being an absolutely amazing place to be, this photo represents a huge victory for me on Instagram.  It is the very first of my photos to break into the brand new echelon of the 200 club.  That’s right!  Over 200 likes (over 250, actually), and I only posted it yesterday!

I’m super excited about this, because I’ve never had a photo reach this much visibility.  It simply shattered my previous record of 168 likes.  I found it’s likely due to a new hashtag I used, so I’ll have to play around with that a bit more (and I’ll be sure to share that information with you when I have more data).

Now, I know I shouldn’t measure my success through likes on Instagram, but it sure feels great to have that validation sometimes.. especially following a dream I had this week where a good friend and photo mentor told me all of the photos I take are horrible and would never take me anywhere.  Ahh!

Dream aside, this was a good week.  Feel free to hit me up over on Instagram, and please do leave your comments below.  What do you like seeing?  What’s kind of meh?  What do you want to see more of?  I love to hear from you – even if it’s honest (hopefully constructive) criticism!
