I'm traveling! See the latest at!

My efforts on Instagram haven’t been as successful as I would have thought, so it appears I need to experiment a little differently.  No new inductees to the 100 Club.  We’ll see what next week reveals.

Once again, I was surprised this first image didn’t get more love.  I absolutely couldn’t get enough of Landscape Arch.  I didn’t initially have this picture in monochrome, but I kind of like how it turned out.

This was from a recent local photowalk.  We wandered into an old hotel, with a photo-teasing ceiling and enticing chandeliers.  While others were photographing the ornate mirror at the landing, I continued up the stairs to discover a low-ceilinged sitting area, completely devoid of any life.  While there, I stumbled upon this model, and I couldn’t resist the reflection of this glass-topped table.

This should look familiar, from this week’s photo challenge, “security.”  No, this isn’t a grave for a cat; the ceramic animal has been placed atop this headstone… comfort in the afterlife.

Here’s one more from my backpacking training hike.  The colors that day….

And I couldn’t go without sharing another photo from our desert road trip.  This is a little different angle on Mesa Arch.  You could see for miles in Canyonlands!

This one’s a bit of a throwback.  This was my submission for Leanne Cole’s weekly Monochrome Madness for her theme, “culture.”  This was from our trip to Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto, and I absolutely loved the juxtaposition of the traditional kimono with modern smartphones.  How the world has changed… and yet remained the same.

And surprisingly, this was my most liked image of the week.  This was from our hike through the Devil’s Garden in Arches National Park, after visiting Landscape and Double O arches.  It’s hard to imagine such a barren place could be subjected to flash flooding, but when there is water here, it swirls in these little pockets in the rock.  Rocks and sticks collect to additionally bore a hole into the ground.  It’s all quite fascinating.
