Another week has inexorably slipped by.. how did that happen?? My summer has been so ridiculously busy. I really hope it starts to slow down a bit soon. Incidentally, I only got two photos up this week: one on Instagram and one on 500px. I promise more this next week.
I’m also considering starting a new Instagram account for some cosplay photography. As you probably know by now, I also shoot events on top of all my travel, landscapes, and wildlife photography. However, I don’t really have a good place to showcase that. I’ve been posting some to my Facebook page, but I don’t want to inundate folks who follow me there for my landscapes with nerdy costumes. Another Instagram account would let me focus on some of that, but it would require more time to post there as well. What do you think?
As for this week’s photos, I only have two, so they’re pretty easy to rank.
This first one was from my trip last year to Alaska. We saw many bears on that trip, but we also saw other critters, including this little guy. He chased a mouse straight into our camp, so we were fortunate enough to get a close view of him. Such beautiful creatures in that wilderness!
Which leaves my favorite this week to be this astrophotography shot from a few summers ago. We headed out to patter around Smith Rock State Park for a weekend, and we camped nearby with a clear view of this nighttime tapestry. What we didn’t realize at the time that there was an ever-so-faint glow on the horizon that only revealed itself in a long exposure.
While we were out there, I attributed the glow to nearby forest fires. However, that green hue is suspect, and the fires that year weren’t in that direction. We concluded we were seeing the very fringe of the aurora borealis. How cool is that?
I long to witness the true curtains of pink and green with my own eyes, and someday soon I’ll make it happen!
