I'm traveling! See the latest at!

Greetings, all!  I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and that you’re enjoying the beautiful spring (or fall) weather, wherever you are.

This week was difficult to sort by my favorites, which just tells me it’s a good set.

This first image was from the top of Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii.  We had ascended the famed volcano to capture sunset at its peak.  Unfortunately, we didn’t realize that we’d be kicked out of the viewing area just after sundown.  In the future, we’ll now know to get permission beforehand to stay late for the stars.

I did manage to capture this one image, just before we were forced to vacate.  I look forward to having another go.

Next, a photo from the other noncontiguous state, Alaska.  I trekked up there with some fellow photographers last year to go backpacking in the wilderness and photograph bears.  This pilot landed on the beach in front of our camp on our second day to check up on us, offering us a ride across the Red River if we found it impassable.  Fortunately, we managed all 26 miles on our own feet.  I’m quite proud of that accomplishment!  And we definitely got a lot of pictures of bears.  You can read all about that adventure here.

And back to Hawaii for a tropical beach.  We saw many of these while we were there, and seeing the images now still put me in a state of peace.

This next one was my submission this week for Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness.  This was taken atop the Angels Landing hike in Zion National Park.  The sun was brutal that afternoon, but we really lucked out when some clouds rolled in, adding some beautiful texture to the valley.  We all quickly grabbed our cameras, including our photographer friend here.  You can read all about that adventure here.

I love this next photo, and I even have a print of it on my wall (with slightly different color tones).  We got up before sunrise for this one (another adventure with photographer friends) before spending the day at the nearby Smith Rock State Park.  I love the details of this old tree, the persistence long after death.  Nature is beautiful.

I took this photo on the shoreline of Vancouver’s bay.  We had a spectacular sunset prior, and we had so much fun just wandering the waterfront, biking, walking, and exploring.  Vancouver B.C. is a beautiful city, and I couldn’t stop shooting.  You can read more about that trip here.

Finally, I come back home for my favorite image this week.  It’s finally springtime in the Pacific Northwest, so we’re out frequently, hitting the trails and chasing waterfalls.  This particular one comes from what we’ve dubbed a “Duane-venture.”  You can read all about that exciting day right here.

I’m going to try to shake things up again on Instagram.  You’re welcome to follow me there to catch the latest, and I’d love to hear what you think below in the comments!

As a bonus, I am also finally on 500px as well.  I’m posting only my best work there, and all images I share are for sale (please contact me if you don’t see them available in my shop).  Here’s a sampling of what I posted there this week:

Enjoy the week!
