We lead very busy lives, and I’ve been feeling things have been particularly hectic lately. With the holidays fast approaching, there are a number of extra items on my to-do list. Additionally, the weather has been damp and dreary – not very conducive to enjoying the great outdoors.
In short: I’ve been cooped up in front of my computer, work work working, hardly seeing any sunlight and going just a tad bit crazy.
However, for those who live in the Northwest, it is known that during the wetter months, those rare dry (and even rarer sunny) days are highly cherished, so we take advantage of them whenever they come our way.
I managed to break away from my routine work long enough to go enjoy such a day, and we found ourselves exploring a Washington trail along a crystal-clear river. We didn’t see a lot of direct sunlight; what little sun that broke through the clouds were swiftly thwarted by thick mossy trees. Despite that, it was refreshing to get away from the city for a day and breathe in some rejuvenating chilly forest air.
I quickly forget how good it feels to be out on a quiet trail, how revitalizing even an hour in nature can be. My life sweeps me away, and before I know it, a month, two, four have passed. Being surrounded by moss and trees and mushrooms and waterfalls slows the whirlwind of my existence and heals my weary soul far faster than days resting at home.
Life is much simpler in those moments, and it reminds me of growing up with an east coast forest in my back yard – my daily playground. Days when I had so few obligations or cares, days when I actually understood the concept of boredom.
Don’t get me wrong – I love my crazy life. But amidst all the insanity, I treasure the days when I can bask in the nothingness of a serene walk outside, with my camera by my side.

Oh Brianna I’m just the same. We’re also in the PNW, and we go out walking in the forest pretty much every day even when it’s raining otherwise I’d go stir crazy. Lovely photos.

Thank you, Alison! We’re fortunate to have such beautiful areas to explore here. I sometimes miss the 300 days of sunshine I had in Colorado, though 🙂
Nice outing. I know what you mean about being busy, I’ve barely had time to walk to the mailbox. But maybe I can get the camera out next weekend…
Thanks, Dave! Fortunately, my camera calling is a good motivation to take a break every so often 🙂
